Go with 1 character... Use the reroll function often.
Make barb
buy Bronze Sword/Plate Mail (if you do not have)... 1 fg each

starting stats 10 points into Vita... since you are HC

Level your character in arena up to level 7... safe and fast
Mute what you want
Reroll and repeat
Reroll and repeat
Reroll and try Catacombs single... if you have items that give you added life... +1 to X life per attack
Stay in "Middle"... get less damage.. just muck around a little... hope to get a rod for fishing...
Got Rod?... do some fishing... cook fish...
Reroll/Arena to level 7 or 10

Repeat this until you get some of your proficencies up:
Sword
Mute
Fish
Cook
Heal (if you have heal on....)

just an idea...

Then later on after all you finds... you can decide what to do later on...

Now... get yourself some other tier weapons/armor
Level 10... Sword/Plate Mail... this will help you get to level 20
Level 20... Sword/Plate Mail... this will help you get to 25
Then buy in level of 5 tiers...

Remember... just 1-2 fg each item... not pricey ones... sell off your junk
