criticals first roll your damage from the regular range
then multiplies that by your crit bonus, so in the end, the crit average will remain entirely the same

in the end, a sword will do more average damage than other weapons because of the undercut effect on opposing monsters defenses
but it might take a hit or more (like .2 iirc, it's in one of those threads) to kill the monster because of overkill
this makes swords a better choice if you take a while to kill a single monster, axes better when you can 2-3 shot everything
