Well, I made a Guardian, it tanked and healed good, but I got sick of not being able to play when I wanted to because of cata being dead often.

I'm in the process of making a Mage, and they are somewhat a bit to expensive for me; I'm wondering if there is a cheaper alternative.

Melee can burn a serious hole in your pocket after a while. If you did try out a melee, the cheapest way to go would be to make a fighter, get yourself some EE clubs, EE plate mails and a dex charm. Those are really the most effective melee items that can be bought at cheap prices.

to go cheaper, make a Caster Rogue. Get a Med Armor with Int, and Melee weap with Int, they are cheap. Put all stats to INT. You won't be as effective as a Mage, but your survival is actually better.
