Depends on the weapons and armor.
The best feeder, IMO, is the fighter, for melee
or the magician (my personal favorite).
Out of the classes I've made it to, my favorite
is tied between Paladin (the furthest I've made)
and the magician, again, my personal favorite.

why cant i make a pally?

Depends if you like melee or caster.

I'd much rather cast because it's way more powerful in the later levels (when it counts) so I'd choose a magician. If you want to melee though then just make a fighter.

to use samurai or other upper classes, you must pass master quest with any of first 5 classes at first (+ upper classes in a certain order).

for all the caster lovers there is no better choice than warlock though it requires at least 5 straight passes by a single character
magician is a good choice for caster among the 5 starter classes.
