I'm a (now lvl31) Healer. When playing in Cata with a group most of the time I'm not able to pick up drops. I have enough room in my inventory.
Anybody knows why? Is it because I don't do damage to the monsters (but heal my party instead)? As it works for me now, it sucks being a healer.

what I do when I'm healing is I keep hitting the monster with my weapon when i'm not healing
switching between Q and E

that way I can take the drop if I want to
but ususally if you keep healing, you should be able to pick up the items
if you don't heal at all and stay "neutral" , then you can't pick them ^^

Tnx for clearing this up. Can not confirm this strict realtion between active healing and being able to pick stuff up. Even if I did heal that round I could not pick things up. Strange...

sometimes when i heal small amounts, im not allowed to pick up items.
you should just smack everything once and heal ur team slowly when they arent taking too much damage.

yeah make sure you do that.

if you arent always getting actions in, you wont gain as much exp, or be able to pick up as many drops.
