Actually even though many people say you need tons of fg, I believe its not needed. It'll help you but you can also survive without any - just like when hc was first started.

Barb or Fighter is good for a melee, and a good class to grind with. Looking into hc trading you will find many decent grinding weapons and items nowadays, so it shouldn't be that costly to obtain one.

For casting I would recommend starting off with Fighter Caster, it may seem like a gruesome class to play - but the mana is low that you regen fast, and you lose mana over life [which is a good thing in hc]. Ofc you'll have to melee for the first 30 or 40 levels but after that just get as high intelligence armor [heavy if you can] and weapon as you can afford, and highest ee charm you can get. And start grinding. Before you know it you'll be doing mq's weekly and finding items. Make sure you mute a lot also. Again it may seem like a bad class, but remember this is hardcore. Do as much as you can with what you have :)

Btw if your going to do a rogue caster, you might as well do a fighter because you'll have to have 50 or so vit before you do anything - which is already base of fighter. Plus, fighters wear heavy and rogues don't
