so im trying to create a character and ive never played it before but it wont let me choose between hardcore and normal and i dont know how to get it to normal cause i dont like the hardcore idea + im new so i dont think its a good idea

also whats a good class to start out with ?

Just dont click hardcore button, then your char is softcore.
For starting class, probably go for some melee class, figter, rogue, barbarian, shouldnt be too hard.

but it says hardcore right off the bat is it supposed to do that?

When you make char, if you click that button, it turns to black, just dont click it.
