the most common way these days used by several melee players is to reach 110-120 dex and the rest into strength,
but the stat points from items need to be included in this calculation.

it wouldnt make sense to leave the stat points from items outside this calculation, because they effect your end result as well of course to a large extent.
depending on if you have stats on your items ( or eventually only life steal ) and especially how much of them, influences the number of points you stat.

e.g. lets say someone now says you have to put 70 points into dex and the rest into strength,
but your own gear already brings 90 dex points, you end up at 200+ dex which isnt really effective any more these days.

so it is very important to adjust such proposals to the gear you own before always.
gear has a very high effect on the way you play and the way you distribute your stat points,
so i can just advise to check for your own setup and financial means before you adopt a suggestion made blindly.

in some cases e.g., it can be even more effective to play the samurai as a hybrid caster going melee 1-40 and the rest caster if you have low fg, but bought good casting gear already.
