apart from the right stating of your character which you find in the guide collection you need to upgrade your gear during your climb.
items are categorized by tiers. you can find all the details e.g. how items from a certain tier are called over here:
http://forums.d2jsp.org/index.php?showtopic=3827582&f=272tier 1, 2 and 3 all do not have any level requirements, but tier 3 is much more effective than tier 1 and 2.
so you should go for tier 3 gear from level 1-5.
your gear is all tier 1 as far as i saw that, monsters will soon get too taugh for you, thats the reason why you are almost without any chance on level 5.
afterwards you hit level 5, you can upgrade your gear to tier 4 gear( level requirement 5 )
the basic damage of level 5 weapons/charms and the defence of armors is superior than the previous tier.
as monsters get stronger level by level, you have to react on that and get this gear.
as an easy example:

as you can see, a tier 3 sword ( bronze sword ) does 3 times more damage than a tier 1 sword ( rusted sword )
so you need to go for such a sword for sure, not tier 1. once you meet the level requirements for the next higher tier ( iron ) go for that, you do another bunch of damage more.
basically, you need to upgrade your gear every 5-10 levels depending on the stats.
