Did they re-work swords? I thought swords used to favor dexterity? I looked up the ratios and it was saying 75/25 strength/Dex.

Is this still accurate? And now swords preference strength type robes and charms? Is there a recommended stat cap for people aim for before diminishing returns kick in?

I was going to ask a specific person but their inbox is full atm.

Should I be looking for strength or dex gear if I plan to use swords? I would assume looking for dex gear would be better since certain other secret classes can benefit from the dex gear and you get strength from leveling stats?

For swords you want strength gear.

Swords/clubs = strength
Dagger/staffs = dex
Axes does not matter at all.

To answer your other questions, you can use swords on the first three classes so no need to get dex gear for a while. After that ninja and hh can use strength as well.

You will need dex for monk, and casting gear for warlock

I've begun getting casting charms already less successful on the healing front just yet but I am doing it. The other question I had was do I need to balance str with dex?

Not at all, go pure strength. You will want some vita as well, but as far as dex/str go, only str.

this shows ratios, for which stat gives best dmg etc, always stat whichever the higher side of ratio or if axes, can do str or dex and just use ur highest stat charms for that lvl etc
