Contradiction is based on the core you are playing. Vita for Hardcore... Strength or Dex for more damage based on the weapon you are using.
Sword has a 75 str / 25 dex ratio, so... you pump Strength / Dagger (not barb weapon) has a 90 dex / 10 str ratio... so you go with dex... Axes... does not matter... 50/50 ratio.
glyphing / transmuting etc are extra abilities... they are listed in the portal on the left side before logging onto LS
Shrine junk gear will be needed at higher levels as you carry on... so you can trash the crap that won't give much life/mana when shrining (e.g. magical vs rare of the same tier level)

OH... there is a difference between HC and SC in this game... based on amount of gamers etc creating groups blah / blah etc.
