You need to kill mob lvl higher than your proficiency lvl, also you can earn max 10 points per one mob. You won't receive profs above lvl 70 (except heal charms).
And to gain +1 point you can't fight mob under your lvl and not too high above your lvl.

Nice, so proficiency gain when playing solo is the same as in a group of five. That motivates me to keep going when I can't find a group.

Yes sure but solo 1-71 also takes 5x as long as group 1-71.^^
So proficiency per time is the same as the number of attacks per time is the same.

Only when you have as much actions as the average actions per 1 player. If you have not enough actions, then some other players "steal" your profs (and time is constant).
Also in solo you have more chance to get +1, since mobs are closer to your lvl. With 5 players mobs lvl varies more.

In other words, I would say it's same time per profs. In solo it's always more.

New question on proficiencies:

What exactly is the bonus? If I have lvl 1 sword proficiency which is 1ee, is it 1ee for the base dmg or if I have a sword with 67ee -> 68ee or is it 1ee AFTER base dmg and weapon ee?

Example:

Base dmg = 100
Sword has 100ee
lvl 1 sword proficiency -> 1ee

a) Base dmg -> 101 -> 202 with sword ee
sword now has 101ee -> 201 with sword ee
c) 100 base dmg -> 200 with sword ee -> 202 with proficiency

Which one is it?

The ee added by proficiencies will not show up on your character stats window.

So, the damage displayed will be 67ee, but itll work as 68ee.

In addition, with proficiencies or unspawnables, you can have 20ee over tier cap.

not 100% sure what u mean by each of these but let' say u've got 10 sword prof and a sword with 50 ee, now ur sword has 60 ee (can't get higher than 20 ee over cap)
