Well you obviously haven't done it before then because I'm speaking from personal experience here. Just as long as your heal charm is sightly better than your attack charm you'll definitely have at least 75% success rate once you get the hang of it.
With the gear you recommended it would be MASSIVE overkill for someone who just started.

im guessing n ur right havent done it from experience but i just spent for my climb prolly wat? 200-300 max w/ mana regen gear etc.
and my weap i only got for 200, my armor i got for i think 50 or somewhere around there?

If you would have swapped EE's on your earth and heal I'm sure you would have seen a much better success rate.

A lot of it is strategy though
