How useful is this?

Can it be used as a mana battery in catas? How often/much does it replenish?
should you be in the front to make the most of it?

Is it viable to use solo?

Is this mainly a mechanism for hybrid types that melee and use their heal charm occasionally?

It's my favourite passive stat ^_^ works wonders in catacombs, and can also be useful in arena. I have a couple of mana syphon plates which really help with the whole heavy casting bit... 10 base int is so painful but this numbs it slightly :) I can usually get at least another mob or two out of just having the mana syphon on my gear. And in catas it helps a lot because you can be out of mana but then suddenly it's just like you've got an extra couple hundred :D

I don't know if anyone has tested out a mass mana syphon build yet (20%+ on weapon/armour/charm and EE heal charm in acc) but that would be pretty epic in my opinion. Now I'm actually kinda bummed out that I sold you that leather :P not really, but still it would be fun to do

Lol no1 makes heavy casters anymore cause the mana pool blows. I want to find out if mana syphon would just own this problem or not =D

Yes to almost everything. I personally prefer hm to ms or int to heal since it'll heal more. I also like hm when soloing. It'll be rare to get a casting monster in solo to siphon off mana so it's not as viable as you may think.

The time you siphon mana is when a caster monster attacks you. You have a percent chance (siphon percent you're wearing) to take the mana that's used.

Ms is useful, but not for your standard cata/solo runs since you only get a few hundred mana back. It is useful though when trying to do a mirror maze

I've got 23% MS on my level 45 caster setup and I notice myself gaining back lots of mana, probably at least 1k if I time it right (switch to my sword on caster mobs for a while to leech mana basically).

HM and int are probably more useful in the long run but if you can find nice gear with mana syphon on it then go for it in my opinion :D

This will probably be a double post, but I'm on my iPod so give me a break :P

stok3d had a setup with about 70 siphon on and still ran out of mana on a heavy caster back when we did climbs with warlocks and whatnot. It's not as godly as you may think at least I don't believe it to be

edit: siphon should only be used as a complementary mod, not as a main mod imo. If you can get good gear with decent siphon on them, then all the more power to you

Ahh did not know that Nick did that, thanks for the info :) good to know

Yeah I rock it when I can but I don't go out of my way for it ^_^ I think that's the best way to go

We should get stok3d in here to give us a little commentary on his experiment ^_^ I have about 34 total on my heavy caster right now. Just some pure ms stuff that i bought to test out how effective it really is so i guess I'll find out tonight if its actually worth it. It seems that it definitely is not as effective in solo though so unless its built in already to a very nice statted item its not worth it to stake out for it

/e yea what nevv said

If you are going heavy casting (differing from what you had hinted at with melée and healing) I would just go with more int (unless you have int/ms). The killing power greatly outweighs the benefits of siphoning mana.

I merely mentioned melee+HM builds to make a comparison to heavy casters and their practical use of MS. I guess I didn't make this clear at all hah. I've been pming a few people about this at the same time (hehe). I've been going with pure int+massive regen. I think I've concluded to try and find some int/max mana gear and if MS comes with the package then great! Thanks for the help guys.
