would it be better for me to WELL it at lvl55?
or is it the same chances at WELLing it at lvl 45

It would be best to well it @ level 50. always want the character level to be 10 higher than the item level for safety's sake and that's what level the item level would drop at.

The monster is either your level + 1, or item level +10, whichever is higher (i think)

level 50 would be best.

But... If you well it at lvl 65, the sidedrops that MIGHT appear, will be higher lvl

best lvl to well items is arround 64

This is a debate that will never end. Just well at 55+ and you should be fine (that goes for all items).

64 is the place to be to well them.

The best bet for ease of welling any individual item is 9 levels above it. The well monster will spawn at the higher of the following two cases:

1. Item level + 10
2. Your level + 1

So welling your 40 item at lvl 49 will always yeild a lvl 50 well monster. Waiting till 50 will net you a lvl 51 monster. Trying to well it at 30 will still net you a lvl 50 monster.

The reason so many people say 64 is because you'll spawn a lvl 65 monster, which is the lowest level monster that can drop lvl 55 items as side drops.

If you wanted side drops at lvl 64, could you put a rusted dagger in the well and hope for good side drops?
