thats the difference between pay once, or pay monthly.
They have to provide some kind of service, as you paid for it.
They might reduce server sizes, but they cant just turn off all servers. Wc3, Dia2, SC ... all good examples for that

pretty sure somewhere in their contract conditions it is stated, if they dont make enough money to provide the servers that they can turn it off
the reason why they dont is most likely because if they did
people would start to discuss, and it would throw a bad image on the whole franchise of diablo
which would make overall more loss for them and their branding / image would lose recognition
people would think twice before buying diablo 4

When investors start abandoning Blizzard because the profits aren't growing and the company begins to die. First thing they will do is cut off life support to any game that doesn't have monetization in it.
