I have very solid gear, but i am struggling with damage on a gr 85. IF the pack im trying to kill is alone it isn't so bad, but im wondering the best way to deal with packs that get in the middle of a horde of white packs.
Also any advice as to which affixes I should skip on elites/champs? What level should my gems be before attempting 85 again? currently trying the rift with the following gem levels.
Bane of trapped: 80
gogok: 70
Bane of power: 74

Wondering if the gems play a big part in it as my gear is mostly ancient with good rolls, and I have a 3k dps primal karlei's.
Also what are your guys opinions on running FOK blade armor instead of Marked for death? IF anyone has a minute and is an active solo dh player please let me know!
Currently I have can compete 80's like it's nothing, but the extra 5 levels changing the game xD.

Side note: BiS gear for your merc as solo dh?

I've found that just vaulting on top of the elite, shooting a few times, then vaulting out for that %dmg reduction is best. I use blade armor for the extra toughness. I've also found that this build is completely gear dependent, not skill, so even though you have good gear, I'm sure you can always find better.

Have you augmented your gear yet?

What rune are you using with impale?

Overpenetration.

Augment on Ring weap pants helm.

templar can play huge dps boost and minor damage reduction roles with the following gear:

thunderfury, wyrdward, oculus ring, overwhelming desire. ias/cooldown rolls on everything. he'll stun quite a bit and overwhelming desire is most noticeable on rift guardians.

as for the elites, it should be very easy for you to get right up in their faces using vault and a movement-specific hotkey (mine's mousewheel).

bladed armor 100%, but my DH has more trouble with survivability than damage when it comes to gr80+

and i think ricochet way outperforms overpenetration in terms of clearing large mobs. you just get less life on hit in most scenarios which is why i'm having the issue mentioned above

Currently running fulminator wydrward overwhelming desire occulus on my merc. on the plus side I complete my 85 today, very easily, especially considering I only found 6 elites in 5 floors xD.
I got a very ood upgrade on my amulet gaining 20% more lightning damage and that really pushed me ahead in terms of damage.

Try dfans detailed build guides there is one the main by bigjonasty that's really good
