the diablo wiki isnt very clear on this but im wondering how exactly the stat boosts from caldesann's despair work. they say you need a level 30 gem for weapons but is that just the minimum level it has to be or is that the max bonus youll receive regardless of gem level? if i use a low level gem to add stats can it later be replaced with a higher level gem/ higher stats? whats the max level gem you can use for items?

You can use any gem level on the ancient item, it's gem level *5 + gem type gives you the stat bonus on the ancient item.

For example, if you use (any gem) level 70, for example + 3 Emeralds + ancient item to be enchanted. Your item is transmuted to have +350 dex.

You can re-enchant over the item using the same recipe again.

The lev requirements on the wiki is minimum gem level needed to enchant item.
