I've noticed a mix of phys and light on the top grifters.
which is best? I realize DD's are phys and I use a light rune.
I've been using light elements but should I switch to phys?

Even though you use a light rune, your dust devils will still be doing physical. As the dust devils are the main source of your damage on a Wastes barb, you will want Physical % over Light %.

e/ Basically the DPS gained from Physical % will outweigh the DPS gain from Light %. Any runes you use will be just for utility with Wastes, not damage (i.e. Blood Funnel for sustain, Wind Shear for Fury, etc.).

AND THATS NOT TRUE...

TRUE INFO IS:

The Element type of the rune chosen for Whirlwind will change the damage of the Dust Devils to that Element. The Dust Devils will also be buffed by stacking that Element% on Amulet/Bracers/SOJ.

This is what I've heard as well

You are correct. I had mixed up the mechanics of Convention of Elements (my barb runs with CoE), as the Dust Devils will only get the damage boost from CoE when Physical is active.
