I think that stuff is expensive, and I don't want to pay for it.

Here is what I've done.

AH has some really cheap blues (+190 to +199 dex or vita along with +80 all res). For example, I have boots with +199 dex and +80 all res. Pants with +199 vitality and +80 all res. Belt with +99 dex and +80 all res. And so on.

I looked at what the max value for either dex / vita in that slot, and if it was better than my rares, along with resists, I went that direction. The result? I don't have to use one with everything. I think monks are too dependent on that, and if they went a different direction with how they handled their resists, you could put resolve or something else in that passive.

Doing this (I spent maybe 500 - 800k total), I accumulated 675 all resists, without one with everything. Using deadly reach + keen eye and MoE + hard target, I'm at around 8k armor. Throwing in crippling wave with the 20% dmg reduction, resolve with its damage reduction, and the guardian's path (I dual wield around 1700 life on hit), A2 is much much easier.

I also got res all rings with attack speed and some damage. Cheap stuff.

My amulet is a +100 vitality and +15 attack speed. Blue. Cheap.

Only 26k life. Things hit considerably less than they used to. I only get 1 hit if I do something wrong. And by wrong I mean "omg wtf were you thinking" wrong.

May not be viable in A3/A4, but it certainly is viable in A2, and I will continue to work at making this even more viable in A3/A4. Its a challenge I welcome.

As I progress, the equipment might get better. But I'm out to prove that the monk isn't as gear dependent as people are saying.

The only thing that was pseudo expensive were my fist weapons. Maybe 1 mil each for 600+ dps and 900 loh on 1, 600 on the other. I get more loh from a Skull Grasp, but again that was a find, not a buy.

Hey all, I just completed A4 on my monk and I thought I would contribute since this post helped me out.

I started playing monk 4 days ago and have 25hours /played on him, needless to say i am not a skilled monk. Regardless diablo was easy (first try 20% p3, 2nd try down) compared to my 200+ hours /played wiz with 5x better gear.

I spent about 5-6mil max on all my gear, most of it going into the weap and string of ears. Here are my stats for a3+ (I had worse for a1 and a2):

If you have any questions regarding diablo or any other boss/act in inferno, feel free to pm me

How many elite packs did you skip on your way from Act1 to Act4? I have almost identical stats cept 130 less all resists, and Act2 champs are insanely hard.
I can't imagine being able to take on Act3 or 4. Much less killing diablo.

I think that's why I'm not at A3 yet. I find challenge in not skipping them. Once I'm at that point in A2 inferno, then I will consider it time to move up to A3. I got that way in A1, so...

I had problems with dps < 10k in A2 inferno.

Transcendence is pointless at higher levels. I would use resolve for the damage reduction.

Life on Hit! Can't stress enough.

I changed rune on heal to blazing wrath.

I also got rid of mystic ally and put crippling wave there with dmg reduction.

My playstyle = Deadly Reach w/ Keen Eye 1v1 or at a distance to get the armor buff, then move in to single or group with crippling wave. Alternate the primaries to keep the buffs up. With good LOH crippling wave will replenish your life extremely fast.

Aye, im 100% the same. I feel like if i cannot stand toe to toe with Act2 elites, and can only progress by skipping everything... then i feel like my character never really grew in strength or viability in Inferno overall.
Being able to take on any Act2 champ is what would make me confident and satisfied with progression into Act3/4. So far i can breeze through Act2 by skipping 50% of champ packs... but im so frustrated at being forced to skip, i have refused to move to Act3 so far. lol.

Your armor and All res are on target, however i would probably get a bit more DPS and HP at this point. DPS moreso than HP.
You can get by with your HP, but your DPS is gonna make fights about 2x as long as they should be... longer the fight, the more risk of death.
I have about double your DPS, and still take forever to kill champ mobs in act2 inferno, so i cannot imagine how long 8.5k dps takes...

Survival is great, but you need to find the balance with killing speed... other wise your mitigation potential is kinda moot. :P

in a2? the only elites i skipped were illusionist mosquitos, because that takes so long to kill its def not worth it. Everything else was fairly easy(5 deaths total a1 and a2) hardest being molten ranged elites.

in a3 and a4 i skipped maybe 10-20% of the elites(ranged molten, illusionist + molten or chains etc)

everything else can be kited or straight up tanked
