You cant expect to apply the mechanics from d2 to d3.
The item screens I saw from D3 have no str req on them. If you need max block, it'll have a designated stat or you'll gain the dex through items. If you want vita, the same is true. If you want hercules, the same is true. The same way WoW works, modified for this universe. That's my speculation.

Stat allocation, as is, is largely irrelevant to Diablo 2. Entirely? No. Largely. Games can be and have been built without it.

You think it sucks, don't play d3. I'm sure they'll support d2 for a while longer.
