Hi guys.

What are the most popular monk builds aside the usual cookie-cutter sweeping wind monk?

That's what I actually wanted to ask. Is TR best monk build for paragon leveling on low mp? How does it work exactly? Somehow the damage seems pretty low and I imagine it depletes spirit pretty fast.

You can get +100k with skorn pretty easily with cheapo gears.

And you can get shitload of spirit regen from gears + skills.

Read up on some TR build guides.

Depends on if you play US or EU, EU is quite expensive i found that out myself. but you might be able to get a decent build

never played eu so not sure how it is over there.

but i did help someone in EU server gear up his monk with like 800mil budget one time and most of the gears were priced at pretty much the same as US server.

Not sure whether you looked at the AH through the same window, it shouldn't be too expensive, especially with 1.0.7 patch around the corner...

Bottom line, don't invest too much in TR atm as the patch is hitting soon and those funny ppl put everything on a *snapshot* build is likely to cry and relist their gears for other exploits. lol

p.s. After 1.0.7, TR build is very likely to become less popular/expensive among mid-high end monks for (at least) quite a while as ppl would do higher mp lvls for those recipes and reagents.

And nerf of the exploits is gonna hit the LS dex skorn market hard. :)

Thanks for the input. However since this thread IS on Strategy & Guides subforum, I think this is the right place to ask: is anyone here also using TR monk for leveling? What skills/equipment do you fancy? I was basically thinking about the same setup as SW monk but only with TR on right click (overawe, blazing wrath, serenity, faith in the light, fot (maybe with quickening for quicker spirit gain) and TR with tailwind).

The TR build can vary by a lot depending on your gear... You basically have to balance spirit regen and DPS so that you spend minimal time travelling between and hitting monsters... They go hand in hand because the build doesn't work if you just go with one... ie:

infinite TR with low dps means you'll be spending too much time circling around or actually stopping TR to hit enemies
low TR with high dps means you won't generate enough spirit to travel between packs

From my personal experience, 110K dps lets you TR scorpions in one pass; 140k adds the spear throwers; 170k gets MOST enemies outside of phasebeasts and the fat dudes... i think Jin does it with 180K and gets most things in one pass. This is when you actually need the infinite TR.

To begin with, USE YOUR TEMPLAR. You actually only need a little bit of spirit regen... i think 4+ from your equipment will let you travel between 2 packs (given that you regain full spirit from the pack)... as your DPS increases, you'll find yourself being unable to regain full spirit from certain packs... this is when you need more spirit regen (meanwhile, you can increase the MP level to maintain speed)...

For gear, you want to be working towards a full inna's set... start with the helm because it has up to 2.5 spirit regen! remember that you don't really need that much defense for mp0... i think 250 all res can do it... but arthur recently made me realize that physical resistance works almost as well (and i think it works against reflect damage). A skorn is almost mandatory as well, but you can start with any high DPS 2-hander; just remember that dex and crit damage% play just as important of a role in DPS as the actual weapon DPS. 2-handers get you way more spirit regen from the guardian's path passive, but you can actually use 2 1-handers to begin with. The reason is, you'll hit for less but you'll get all your spirit back from a mob, which will let you travel to the next mob.

I actually use a hybrid TR build for MP5 with 2 1-handers. I have 4.5 base spirit regen on it and i use exalted soul for a bigger spirit base and a bit more regen. I started doing it for MP3, but as my defense and DPS went up, i could handle MP5 as well... it requires some pricey gear though because you need all your defense from gear alone (passives are OWE, fleet footed, exalted). Anyway, i hope that answers your questions

Ylem, thanks for the breakpoints information a while back!!! I was wondering what that was :P And it makes perfect sense, now.

Right now, i've been thinking a lot about possible investments for next patch... i'd love to share and critique ideas, but let's do it through PMs...
