D2 classic is best. LoD screwed things up with there RuneWords.

I honestly won't play the game if it's pay to play. I see both sides, and I love the idea of the game not being ruined by cheaters and hacks... but I love my money.

I don't plan to play the game all hours of the day/night - so therefore, I see it a huge waste of money to spend money on a game I'm maybe going to play a few times a month. I then feel obligated I HAVE to play, because I paid for it...

I think if they thought of a better way to make it all work out, then it would work for me.

Agree with OP 100%. There is simply no way around it. If you want a great game, it must be maintenanced/supported by the publisher periodically. With no cash income there is no maintenance.

Hope I don't say anything wrong here but look at Hellgate London. It was a greate game to start with in my opinion. However, eventually it could not be financed...and went bankrupt I believe. What a shame. This must not happen to d3. Thus I'm pro pay to play.
