Igot a question wouldn't it be better to stack dps/ias in inferno (while having 2x 1 handers with good loh) and reasonable resist (~300)?
rather than going for 800+ resist, and ~12k with shield

700+ resists are pretty much mandatory for monks act 3 forward.

how do you buff up a monks damage? I do 15k and I do no dmg against elite boss mobs. Anyone know why?

Increased attack speed, dexterity, more DPS on the weapon, and crit chance/damage.

I fixed some things on the theorycrafting spreadsheet for monks.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ak0hueccAWkpdFAtTFlSM29MUHktOS1JTzBCLVZFc0E#gid=4

-Plug in your gear's stats and it will automatically tell you all your defensive information (bottom middle)
-Hypothetical DPS (omni-damage) built in to help assess upgrade options (bottom right)
-It tells you, based on your current stats, how many EHP you gain from each stat (str, dex, vit, and resist) (top middle)
-Accepts a few build options such as one with everything and seize the initiative to help determine actual performance (top right)
-It works really well if you record your current EHP, plug in a potential upgrade item, and compare. This way you can test gear before purchasing. Believe me that it's not always obvious which item is better!

Some things to take away:
-Diminishing returns are not important. Although you gain less damage reduction for each armor point added, for example, you are applying that smaller reduction to a smaller base pool which means the increase is still linear.
-Stat priorities are based on what your current stats are

To be added:
-More build options (skills)
-DPS stats
-Optimization
-Item ratings including DPS

Edit: To use the sheet you will have to make a copy by either downloading it or saving it to your own google doc account.

How insightful of you. It all makes sense now!

On the other hand, better gear immproves efficiency. 800+ res makes it easier to kill mobs faster because of a reduced reliance on cooldowns and kiting. In fact, unless you counter the resistance with a huge h.p. pool or other damage reduction form it doesn't matter how well you play... you'll die constantly.

I agree with this. I've been using a guideline for my resists as follows:

400+ for A1
600+ for A2
800+ for A3/A4

To say the least, thats ambitious for a dual wielder. I do think its possible though. My other priorities are to stay above 2 attacks per second and 2000 LOH. I think doing that will ensure I can tank most of the things (along with increased dodge). Dex and Vita can then be the focus for damage and life, but as long as I'm not dying and holding my own, I'll put dex over vita to give my dps an additional boost.

Wanted to add that I'm not in A3/4 yet. I'm in A2 inferno. What I'm saying may not work there. Will only know when I try.

I would like a few expert opinions and/or tips on what may be going wrong with my monk.

Here's the setup

Skills:

Unbuffed stats:

In battle stats:

I spent about 2 weeks gathering money and gear, and about 12+ million gold later, it just seems like it was an expensive trip through act2 just to get cockblocked in act3.
My normal build was cripple (mangle) with conviction aura (overawe), but for act3 I went all out defensive and still I get schooled by elites, and even some whites catch me off guard with the absurd damage spikes.
I tryhard elites with kiting and as efficient of use of cds as I can imagine myself doing, and at best I get hit with the elite curse timer because the game thinks I'm taking too long and just wants me dead already.
Just about everything is either molten, plagued, desecrator which basically has me only dishing out any real damage during serentiy and has me running around poking at them while I wait for another go. God forbid they have cc mods (which 80% of the time they do), which means I spend even less time doing damage and more time running around.

So I don't get it...

act3/4 farm : 1h+shield when party , dw only with top weaps , ias on gloves neck rings, maybe perfect zunimasa boots and 2set innas would be handy . +800res if u want to do it smoothly and want to party up with more ppl. lacuni and boj anglers crap are for trash. and dont tell me about the diablo kill with his 3,9 speed. get his weapons and you wont need such much ias , which is getting nerfed soon.

im farming diablo btw
hope i helped a bit
