If D3 is pay to play, I probably won't play it at all. I was a HUGE fan of D1 and refused to play D2 for years because of the story (you char from D1 did nothing and was basically helping Diablo). But I'm glad I turned around. Do you think ANYONE would still be playing D2 if it cost money to play? Doubtful. The only game I'm going to be willing to pay to play if Fallout Online (If it ever does happen..) and thats only because I've been playing fallout 1+2 since I was 16, and I still play them both all the time. Even then I'd feel cheated if I had to pay to play... but I would....
My point, If D3 is pay to play, ALOT less people will buy it, I know I won't.

I personally don't think it will become a pay to play game for two reasons:
1. they will lose alot of players and fans (will probably only be the WoW players going to play it)
2. The fact that they made it a non esport game like sc2 is and wc3 is and even WoW... This means they won't be having to do as many updates as they would if it were esport, the fact that u are your own creator of everything in d3 is taking out the balance of the game, which is what they want to not make it a esport game (even tho it probably will turn out that way anyway).. and for that reason I don't think they will be charging you money every month...
