I didn't take your statement in a "developers do worse as time goes on"

Diablo 2 is the better game which is why it gets played more. That is no secret.

If D3 would be doing well then Bli$$ard would show these numbers. They don't because it would reveal how badly D3 is doing compared to D2, remember that D2 was released 12 years earlier then D3 ffs.

Seeing the actual numbers would cause investors to ask lots of awkward questions ^_^
