How exactly do you kill azomo with only RLTW? Wouldn't being able to WW through him with RLTW produce more tornado hits than just RLTW?
Excuse me if I'm missing a big detail.

But wouldn't it be a much more accurate analysis to measure times of just using whirlwind vs using whirlwind + RLTW to see how much DPS RLTW adds?

The objective of this test is to find out the proportion of damage from ww.

Rltw deals approximately 70% of your total damage output. Killing azmodan with only rltw would not be an issue. U dont need to ww through azmodan to deal damage on him. Just by circling azmodan, Rltw damage range is far enough to hit him most of them time.

Using ww per se without rltw would not be feasible, as I would not have enough fury regeneration to sustain a 100% ww uptime throughout the whole test.
U can try killing mobs with just ww, u will understand what I meant.

its not upgrading a dagger into a 11ias dagger

For the consistency for the test of RLTW only, I ensure that my OH is the last weapon swung before using Sprint

your test setup is bad!
you tell that your ww take part of 30% of the damage
but that only counths, if your RLTW only test, alternates between the attack speed of main+oh

basicly your test is a twillight, that showes, that your char result in:
sprint mh+ sprint oh + ww main hand damage+ ww offhand damage = sprint based on offhand aps * 0.7

He did a better test than you could in a 1000 years! All you do is post a wall of text and numbers and try look smart :rofl:

Sprint alternates speeds when you recast anyway, its not like he pressed sprint once.

What he did in this test is correct, he proved that ww has a part in damage, which it obviously does. The other test differed because it was a different methodology, it only used sprint + ww, and used different offhands. So could be ww doesnt alternate damage at all. That could be the variance here.

So whirlwind alternates weapon damage, yes. Before I show the results I would like to say that high dps offhand is still the best choice unless all you want to do is 100% ww/nado and youre not changing build for ubers or alk / mp10 runs. Every other attack besides nado uses both weapon damages and effects. Ideally, a high dps echo offhand is the best choice ever.

I suppose his test showed those results because the offhand is again just 50% of that 30% damage from whirlwind, and vs single target it might not have such a big effect at all.

These are the weapons I used, I chose a cold dmg offhand to further show how it alternates, nado was the only thing that didnt freeze mobs, which further helps proof of it never using offhand damage.



Stats

1433 Strength
331 crit damage
15% skill ed - Battle rage

Expected numbers for crits

(Tornado - 20% on hit, Whirlwind - 50% on hit, Weapon throw - 143% on hit (130% x 1.10 no escape passive), HOTA Smash 406% on hit)

Mainhand

Tornado 7901 - 15742
Whirlwind 19754 - 39357
HOTA Smash 160408 - 319582
Weapon throw with No escape passive 56498 - 112562

Offhand, I realised it was in use not just from the numbers but also the nice freeze effect with hota, whirlwind and weapon throw

Tornado 1534 - 2416 --> Never got these numbers, so yeah its indeed the only attack that doesnt use offhand damage
Whirlwind 3836 - 6040
HOTA Smash 31156 - 49048
Weapon throw with No escape passive 10973 - 17275

There was a wtf moment where I was getting 4k and 25k crits on weapon throw vs a goat spear champ pack, which were out of both weapon's expected ranges, but then realised its healthlink! What an awesome game this is!

And now weapon throw, i have ricochet and each sequence can crit many times, but always one sequence uses one weapon dmg range so the number disparity is very obvious, as is the freeze effect when offhand is engaged

Now the other weapon range for weapon throw, very obvious how it alternates weapon damage and not just speeds, and you always want a good dps offhand for throw or hota, that is my conclusion here.
