Like I said, it depends on the class. If youre taking 50% more dmg from an attack that is already reduced to ~3000 from your ar / armor, its one thing. Barbs and monks fall in this category. They are the classes that can take some dmg as long as its well mitigated beyond a certain point and then can sustain themselves with their leech / healing skills without requiring further mitigation. If you take 50% more dmg from an attack reduced to 10k, then I'd agree.

What are you playing on hardcore? If its barb, Do you have shield, IP / iron impact? You stand in molten / plagued pools without ignore pain / leap's 300% armor? I've seen barbs on stream with 10k ish res / armor avoid molten / plagued like the plague, pun intended. Or making sure theyre dead before IP is out, else they have to kite for a bit and wait on the cd. These are barbs with massive dps too. But then again, tank barb is an entirely different issue. Its a one off build that can 'tank' those aoe affixes. Revenge with a decent life pool and loh and ignore pain can let you stand in molten for a far longer time than any other class / build in the game. You could probably do just as good with 800 ar / 8k armor, while improving your dps output too.

It's a barb, obviously, and since its hardcore survivability is my number one concern. Not that it actually matters since every class benefits from knowing how the game works. I'm not here to debate the usefulness of armor and resistances at different amts. I'm just explaining how there's no diminishing effect.

So far noone has anything solid to prove it though and everything I've seen indicates that they need to check back with their highschool math teacher. So, deliver or begone. --> again, we are discussin, why do you have such an attitude? Not like you have delivered anything to counter it either .... whats your point? That you're right just because you decide to say so?

Well, when you blurt out something like that I would say the burden of proof is on you, not me.

stacking it is good, with my DH ive stood in molten plagued desecrate and multiple arcanes while being pounded by 2 packs of phasebeasts BEFORE they nerfed the "dangerous" arcane to nothing with this latest patch.

no loh exploit, just dps + allres + shadowgloom

No shit you stood there, hello ignore pain + 20% life leech for demon hunter. 'Just' shadow gloom XD

Gloom is like having an extra 20k armor .... and with high dps that 20 life leech >>>> old caltrops / grenades / chakram tank build procing with 2000 loh

They didnt nerf arcane sentry to that much (nothing), people exaggerate so much or just play a build which like in your case, never had problems with that particular affix, so to them it never was a big deal anyway.

gloom is 6000 armor

gloom is 65% reduce all after armor and resists, theyre all multiplicative. Its the same as ignore pain for barb, that is why its so OP, it comes in after all other dr bonuses.

if you have 10k armor and 1k AR with gloom its 97.8 % reduction, without it its 93.6% reduction

thats like having 30k armor and 1k AR ... 97.5% reduction, an extra 20k armor

without gloom, you'd have been butchered in mere seconds, and you might have exagerated the scenario a tad too.

Edit: Your demon hunter 150k Dps 400 allres 45k hp

400 AR, assuming ~3000 armor, gloom

0.45 x 0.52 x 0.35 = 0.0819 --> 91.81 % reduction, thats around 3-4% less dr than my barb, and I have same hp, and I cant stand in lasers and molten / plagued / desecrator.

But 150k dps x 0.2 shadow power x 0.2 inferno ll penalty = 6000 life leech, way better than a ww/nado barb's loh returns.

65% reduction will almost tripple your EHP, 6000 armor tripples your EHP.

You dont read? Theyre multiplicative, not additive. If you remove gloom, to get its effect you'd need more than an extra 6000 armor. Or you can say gloom = 6000 armor only if your dh has 0 armor.

I remember this being discussed in WoW PvP with Resilience damage reduction.
Great read, great information.
