Hello monkers, I need some advice. I posted a link to my monk in the general strat and guides and was told it was terrible and to come here.
wow, your monk is so "unusual", just can't ignore :D

first change your build to a normal one:
http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#aYXgkS!UXa!acbYac
Sweeping wind rune can be Blade Storm since you havn't crits enough.

then remove amethysts from your weapons. emeralds > all for sockets.
but it's better to get new weapons like 800dps+critdmg fists (cheap) with 700+loh or 2.5+lifesteal (depends on your total dps after upgrades)

then remove all your star gems, sell them and get new gear with 100dex/50+vita/40+singleres (same res!) on each with so high armor as it's possible. rest founds put in 'crit chance', 'attack speed' affixes.

ps. insane monk ^^

Here. This is my regular build.

Try this.

And just about every gear needs to be changed. Look at my gears and get some insight from it.

You can make a very decent monk with your budget. And I agree with selling your star gems to get some good amount of gold.

Well you better get used to it. If it's too hard, change Deadly Reach with Blinding Flash with dmg boost rune. And change combination strike passive with either Guardian Path or Beacon of Ytar or Resolve. And change Mantra of Conviction with Mantra of Evasion with hard target rune.

And you will have to get better gems in the end, but right now, you gotta change EVERY piece of your item. No priority. Just change everything.

Oh btw, keep 2 star emerald and put those in your new weapons for crit dmg.

Are you on US server? Maybe I can help you out with buying gears. I feel like you have no fking idea with this.

No, sell all your star gems. You can use flawless squares with the quality of gear you're looking at now...something is wrong when your gems are worth more than your gear. With the profits from that, you can afford some major overhaul upgrades.

Some general thoughts:

Shoulders, belt, chest, boots, pants...these are more "defensive" slots, so you can cut costs by focusing more on defensive stats here. Vit, all res, x res (your main res you are stacking), etc. Your shoulders - get new ones with any dex, decnt vit, x res, and res@. These should cost about...30k gold. Looks like you're stacking poison res...but it's hard to tell, your gear is all over the place.

Try this; put in Dex, Vit, Psn res, All res in AH finder. then go through each piece of defensive armor (the slots I listed above) and sort by buyout. Put in min values if you want, 100 dex/vit, 50 res@, 40 psn res, something like that. Then find stuff that's got some useful extra mods on it too if you can. For your chest, make sure you find something either with +150 of each main stat (dex vit) or get one with 2 or 3 sockets on it. After all this, you may have spent up to about 250k total.

Offensive slots...gloves, jewelry, bracers, weapons.
For gloves, go with hi dex, low or no vit, x res, at least 7% crit, and either crit damage or attack speed, whichever you can find cheaper.
Bracers are kind of middle ground. You can usually afford to slack on some crit and get more defensive stats here, but try to get at least 80 dex on them and 4% crit.
Jewelry: get crit, avg damage if you can, dex, maybe vit and single res. If you can manage to find crit dmg or attack speed here too, that'd be great. These slots are best used to maximize your DPS since putting defensive stats on here is just not efficient for gold investment - they are the only slots that can roll the really good offensive stats, so stack defense elsewhere till you're rich enough to "have it all".

Like they said, get weapons with life steal...although you may not be doing enough damage yet for it to help much. it woudl be smart to get one weapon with LS and one with LoH, or get one or the other and a shield for now. Damage has been nerfed a lot so a shield may not be necessary anymore for MP1.

I'd highly recommend getting a cheap Andys helm. Get one with ~150 dex and ~70 vit. There's one up right now for 50k. No socket, but you don't have a lot of cash so you gotta cut corners. Andys helm will boost your DPS by a shit ton at this stage for you. Also comes with your poison res.

All your armor should have resistance. I would upgrade your items in this order: belt -> shoulders -> chest, the order is based on what would be the cheapest to upgrade and which upgrade would benefit you the most (defense-wise... because i think that's where you are having problems)

Here's the thing though: Poison resist seems to be your resistance of choice, but all the items with poison resist aren't very long term. I'd say the best item on yor right now is your "Worthy Prize" ring, which stacks lightning resistance. So you have a choice 1) replace all your gear with poison resist gear and eventually sell "Worthy Prize" OR 2) keep the ring and change all your gear to lightning resist.

Maybe you should look on the auction house for belt, shoulders and a chest before you decide. Look for items with high single (poison/lightning) resist and/or all resist. From what I've been reading, lightning resist gear should be cheaper and easier to find... but Andariel's Visage is such a good option for poison monks...

No worries guys. I'm just gonna buy the items with his gold and gear him up. LOL

He told me he has no idea. Might as well I just do it for him.

He's going to be a Lighting monk. lol

If it were me, I'd rather do it myself and learn a few things, but that's just me. I mean, it's like throwing money at a problem - just throwing gear at the guy isn't gonna make him "get" the game...so at least try to describe what you are doing for him, haha
