Just getting around to playing my monk again, and wondering what I can do to gain a bit more damage as well as survivability.  I was also wondering how much life leech is needed really to sustain yourself, since I've seen some high end monks with literally zero life leech and zero LoH.  Been doing a few digging around, but don't think I'm looking int the correct areas.  Any and all help is appreciated!

Hmmm... I think your monk looks good! Your next upgrades will be treading into "perfection" territory... You should be looking to max out crit chance with IAS and crit damage following close behind. Both your Nat's slots can be milked for more damage. The boots can roll up to 200 dex (300 if you sacrifice your res roll) and the ring could have a damage boost in the form of dex, average damage, crit chance or crit damage. Your amulet could use better rolls as well.

If you've been looking at diabloprogress, I think the top monks there are sacrificing all their defense for their DPS rating. I cannot speak from experience, but monks on this thread have said life steal is needed for both weapons 5.2%? along with some LOH for MP7+. Mostly because of reflect damage. However, it could be the case that the 200+K dps people are simply killing everything before their cooldowns expire. I read a thread on US battlenet lately about 200K dps monks and most people are claiming that it's impossible to survive high MPs at that DPS without both LS and LOH.

On the other hand, there's no real reason to farm mp10 if you're able to farm mp5 at a fraction of the time. Statistically speaking, there is no benefit of farming anything above MP5. The monster HP bonus is way too much for the tiny bit of mf and exp you get in return.

You need better everything pretty much.

Not a single slot is done imo.

Are you guys kidding with this 150k dps nonsense?

I'm at about 75k dps right now and I play mp5 on a regular basis, unless my time is really limited. I do a key run on MP5 in 5-10 minutes (most of that time is spend looking for the goddamn key warden). It takes me 5-10 minutes on mp1 as well. The difference is so negligible in my experience... I can't believe I see people telling new monks they can't play inferno till they are at 150k dps..completely insane. mp6+? Sure, I'll go with you on that one. I only turn MP up for key runs usually anyways for the increase in drop rates, but I still play MF runs at 3 at least. But telling people they should play mp0 until they get to 150k? Wow. What did you guys do before 1.0.5? Wasn't that long ago...

Remember folks: mp0 - terrible mlvls and affixes. mp1 - guaranteed mlvl63 on everything. It's a huge difference, and nobody should ever be playing mp0 unless they cant' handle mp1. There's no way the infinitesimal time saved between mp0 and mp1 runs can even out the decline in item quality. Just one mans opinion.

You're right, we took the question out of context. 150k is definitely not needed. It's the goal for maximum efficiency, but way more than the minimum.

If you're running alkaizer, the monsters on mp0, act 3 are mlvl 63 already. Items roll mlvl affixes now?

Yes, ilvl 58 will have 63 affixes if the mlvl is 63. MP1 just sets the minimum quality bar that much higher than mp0, so I can't see why someone would want to choose mp0 if they can do both, since they are so close in difficulty and time spent. I heartily agree with the idea that there's no point to running high MP levels at all, though. Except of course for ubers and key runs. Other than that, I play MP1-3 for efficiency too. I find the time difference is small enough that MP3 is about my upper end for when I start losing a little bit of efficiency...that I can feel, anyways. But my DPS is in a sorry state compared to many monks at 76k.

We are talking about the maximum efficient on the lvling/farming run. That's why we are saying about 140-150k is good for sub 10min run per mp1 alkasier run.

Of course we can do most of mp lvl games with like half of our dmg. But that's not the point here.

The OP on the subject isn't even level 60 yet...maybe that's not YOUR point, but it certainly is HIS. You want maximum efficiency? Why stop at 150k then? 500k, that's a start. It just has nothing to do with the OP's question, that's all. He's a new monk just starting out in inferno. Telling him to stay away from MP1 until he's at 150k dps is not exactly golden advice in my opinion, but what do I know?

takes 8-10 mins to do an alk run in mp 1 with only 110k dps.

OK, why the heck am I so slow? Is it because I'm getting old? lol... maybe I linger for too long :/ There are two places where I seem to lose time: 1) arreat core level 2, sometimes I do teh little parts... I don't take the direct path to the end 2) keep depths level 2, the maps usually looks like a square with paths coming out of the corners. I like to do the whole square and one of the paths.

Any tips for cutting time down? Should I even bother with white mobs? frustration.
