I'm curious as to what i should upgrade next, im pretty sure this build wont have any problems in the next patch i just need to get some armor/crit dmg to up my dps and survivability.. Should i get rid of shenlongs (I love the aps though) and go 1h/shield?

Edit: 30m budget atm, until i sell my dh

Shoot I can't handle digging almost 400 pages haha. Is it just a link to an EHP chart I might be able to search for?

Would this mean that once your at 600 res@ and 6k armor, then armor outscales res? That's gonna be tough in 1.0.5. I'm at 6.3k armor in live and 4.8k (!!!!) on ptr. Luckily with the incoming damage nerfs I'm not feeling the hurt till about MP7 and by then, health pools are a bit too high for my crappy 60k dps.

I mean I've looked at the percentages as far as diminishing returns are concerned, but then there's also the cost investment to consider with @res vs armor.

at 1:10 its equal so at that point it dosnt really matter whether your next choice is armor or res.

but when its like 4000:600, 100 armor is goign to give you more eph then 10 all res. just as if its 6000:400 10 all res is going to give you more eph then 100 armor.

It means that if your ratio is not 10 to 1, you'll get a better mitigation increase for your gold by getting more of the smaller one. This plays into costs because the higher the roll, the more exponentially expensive it gets (particularly with res), so it may be in your wallet's interest to go armor instead of all res sometimes.

My ratio is also shit right now... i think i'm like 800 to 6k :/ 1.04 will take that down to like 800 to 5k... I recommend looking at high str/armor rolls as an economical way to increase defense because a high str roll is generally useless with a single res to a barb, so a str/dex/vit/single res(/armor) roll is generally cheap.

Right, I understand you. The diminishing returns are equal at 1:10 for res:armor. This is what you meant yea? Of course we have skill modifiers that work differently on each..I think armor is generally better since we have enchantress buff that only affects armor (so the more you have the more you benefit), then we have things like MoE hard target that scales better with higher armor, keen eye, etc etc. Seems like armor is the clear winner? since really its only that mantra of healing rune that scales up resistance. At a baseline, using the enchantress, 10 armor will always be 5% better than 1 resistance since with enchantress 100 armor = 105 armor. It's still hit harder by diminishing returns since it has higher numbers, but it's scaling with enchantress as well. Since I didn't find that graph i have no clue how long the 5% extra armor will still make it more valuable than resists... but for now I think i'll just treat 10 armor as slightly better than 1 res while gearing up for new patch. Very...VERY slightly. lol. But if you're using any other armor scaling skills (and we have a lot) then it's quite a lot better. MoE + Keen eye = +70% armor value alone, + eiyrenna = 1000 base armor=175 base res@

I've actually looked at str rolled gear as well to try to buff armor values...but with all the other stuff I need, and 100 str only equaling about 8-10 res depending on skills, it's usually pretty easy to find something for a similar price with higher res or + armor. But you're right, if you can find something with +armor, +str, AND a mild single res you'll gain a lot from it in general. I'm gonna keep that in mind

Good point. Don't forget enchantress is getting nerfed in 1.05 though :/ anyway, the 10 to 1 is just a guideline to get more mitigation-for-your-gold :P

im highly suggesting guys focus on gettin a decent amount of loh to go with their dual life steal weap setup (easily from an ammy which can get a fat amount on it. and 1.05 will prolly beable to spawn even higher loh on the ammys).. cause looks like LS alone aint cuttin it too well for high mp lvl reflect mobs. I think with loh or a ridic high amount of LPS (like 1.5k -2k) it should help to negate it enough so you actually start to heal yourself back (cause looks like you just get hurt from the monster while the reflect gets negated from LS, so your stuck with actual monster dam hurtin u...n loh will fix that part).

Yep, the current buff is 15%, it's 5% after patch. So right now, armor is actually quite a lot better (3x more than it will be in 1.0.5) just from eiyrenna. 1000 armor = 115 res all currently

This is true. it's all about cost efficiency. However there are still cases where the numbers are a lot closer, and in those cases, it's wise to know the numbers and the scaling to get the best bang for your buck or the most out of a particular slot. For instance, yes, I can find 50 psn res inna's pants right now, but they're closer to 2x as expensive as the 28m 25 psn res pants. Whereas if i can find 250 armor ones for 23k, they are better AND cost less. real world practical application ftw! Of course in this case, the 50 psn res pants are better, but not by much and by MY measure, not for 2x the cost.

This is true, I kind of mentioned it above (LoH being a bonus) and in MP7+ RD hurts a lot with high dps and lots of mobs, and having some LoH on your ammy is a good addition. I just think going the high dps/6% LL route is better in general than going the traditional LoH route nowadays, since it scales so much better with DPS and we are going to be looking at much higher baseline DPS in the near future with ilvl63 jewelry rolling 32-55 dmg on our rings with 5.5% crit, etc. More LoH doesn't hurt though ^_^

hey guys, wondering what i should focus on for my next upgrade

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/KMS039-1327/hero/8624555
26.1k life, 650 res, 70.8k unbuffed dps

my life/res is too shitty for the upcoming patch i think. how much dps can i drop to before it's no longer worth it?

as of right now, even with my minimal life and res, i can do pretty quick clears of a3 so long as i don't do stupid things like stand in molt/arc/desc. i dropped guardian's path recently for fleet footed, and it seems to be working out fine as well.

i was originally thinking along the lines of saving for the nat boots/ring combo now, but maybe i should focus on improving my life/res?

my rings/ammy were purchased the cheapest, but with ilvl63 jewelry looming i don't think it's worth it to invest in a decent one yet.

but my point was have both lol.
high dps is a no brainer. everyone should go high dps no matter what and having LS n loh for for the right times. Its like having a rubber on hand, better to be caught wit it then not have it wen you need it. Cause its double the type of healin. Only helps you and besides, top class monks can afford to dump extra to get loh on their jewelry anyway since LS is gonna be takin the space on our weapons. This is high end monk discussion anyway lol, not budget crap monk. Only the best of best gear :). I would hate to have to revert back to my 1.02 days of when i played around on a DH and feared reflect mobs...that idea of fearing reflect on my monk should never be the case lol. So get the loh + LS and then no problems...only issue would then be addressin armor n res issues lol. 8k armor with 800 all res dual weld... thats gonna be a tough thing to reach : /. No keen eye or hard target allowed lol.
