just tried in game with way of 100 fists. It seems that it only procs on the initial hit. I get way more life back with the first standard attack with the teleport rune on it.

This is what I'm using, it's turning out to be pretty useless but I need a serious re-gear. I solod to Leoric with this but that's as far as I can get. I only have 7.4k dps and 120 resist all, plenty of armor and 40k life though. I'm going to take some time to farm gold in hell and then completely regear focusing on DPS.

Any immediate suggestions? This got me through hell quite easily and it looks to be pretty good on survivability compared to other monks I've seen in Inferno but tanking in Inferno is just... a waste of time, obviously.

every single ability has it's own special life on hit modifier. these modifiers are what the life on hit gets multiplied by each time you use the ability.
it could be as low as .25 (you only recieve one quarter of the life on hit you see), but it can also be OVER 1.00 to where you actually recieve MORE than you see.
i do not know if anyone has done the research yet to narrow down each abilities life on hit modifier.

tanking in inferno atm is not useless, stuff still dies pretty quickly. If you don't gather enough defensive stats inferno is gonna own you, hard, especially in A2 onwards

I mostly mean elite mobs. Normal mobs aren't a problem at all, even bosses like Leoric aren't tough but it's those elite mobs with impossible combinations of attributes. Desecrator and Vampiric come to mind - those two together and it's pretty much over for my poor monk.

I would switch to the evasion mantra with the extra def, and personally i like the heal with the fear rune. Good for when those mobs trap you and your invunerable is on cd.

oh not to mention they were the fucking wasps in act 2 inferno

Doesn't surprise me. Seems like the kind of thing that would make soloing inferno on a monk too easy. If they didn't have it that way it would have probably been patched anyways.

Well I've only been playing act 1 and finding rares for my clan mates, so I haven't tried anything in act 2-4, but changing your skills around a little can make you a pretty formidable tank. The idea is just to make yourself impervious to damage, or as much so as possible. I use SSS pandemonium (stun), blinding flash self reflection (4s), and serenity ascension (4s) to buy time in a game with a bunch of others. A dodge build with CW concussion as the primary attack to keep damage non fatal can keeps me up front for 15-20 seconds depending on the mob. Then i run around a bit and let my helm regenerate some spirit for me and then blind goes off cooldown and i can jump back in.

With a good wiz or dh in there, we dont need more than 1-3 rounds of this before one or two of the monsters in the mob die and i can get more aggressive.

This is mostly my problem, I know a few people who play in a group and they basically voted me out (but they said it very nicely). I bring their average DPS down too much, I'm useless as a tank (which was my role when we all played Hell), and basically I'm not good enough to counterbalance the added difficulty that me joining causes.

I kind of shine with the Arcane Enchanted guys since I can just pop off Serenity when they pass over. If they're frozen or they jail, I use serenity as well, but with waller I always run out of panic skills...

I'll keep that in mind. I might give it a try. I'm currently goldfinding in Hell with 5 stacks of Valor in a 4 person game but it's not finding me enough... does anyone know how MF works? Does it average every player's MF or is it to each their own?
