I've logged about 150 hours on my monk and I've got about 8m gold. I stopped playing him when ww barbs got popular cuz I made one for 300k gold and facerolled act3 with no gear (whereas my shitty gear dependent monk cost 3x that and could barely survive in a2). Monks are fun but they suck ass from a gold:effectiveness standpoint. Now that there's been a lot of nerfs since 1.03, I started playing my monk again, but I'm at that wall where my upgrades are several million gold each for a minor upgrade vs. the 15k on each piece I've been spending. I didn't exploit, and I didn't have time to hoard or even get to 60 during launch. It has nothing to do with being braindead. I made a DH for 150k that got all the way to a4. MONKS ARE FUCKING SUPER GEAR DEPENDENT in comparison, that's all. Thus, it's prohibitively expensive. It's like, lets see, what do I need for my monk? Well, my gloves have 190+ dex, 8% crit, 90 vit, and 60 poison res that I got for about 90k, but I could really use @res on there, and ASI, and CDMG. No big deal, just 20m-150m gold for those slight upgrades. Once you start going, "well, I've got 4 out of the 6 main stats I need", prices start going up WAY faster. So I'm resigned to playing my barb or DH for higher acts, or just having fun on my most enjoyable character but only at lower levels. anyways, /end qq.

Here's the shitty monk in question, lol

What do you think I should do next? Biggest glaring upgrades? I have a few different things I've been swapping out a lot, LoH weaps, api% helm, andys, etc. I was using a LPSS build (2x 60lpss weaps, 30 helm, 62 trance) with FoT:Quickening, which was super fun but just didn't have enough survivability. So now I'm experimenting with a build that's probably a lot better suited for a higher DPS monk, but with my combination strike, Breath, and 15%api up, I'm at about 37k DPS on screen plus 31% bonus from offhand (and 8% from helm for FoT). I stopped using a shield at 1.03...although I'm not averse to using one again, but cmon, dual wield is way more fun.

Nothing.  As I said, i'm a quant option trader specializing in volatility products.  Trading stocks is for the sheeple.  I actually prefer making money, so I wouldn't touch equities...

So where do you work or if you work for yourself what is your broker? just by reading your posts make you sound like you're full of shit. Naming all the vix's sub instruments doesn't make you look cool, specially considering theres no point ever trading those on top of each other...

Diablo 3 AH / market is just like every other market. If you wanted you could make a VIX for diablo 3 gold. The biggest difference/problem is that blizzard isn't offering the volatility information... or any other information regarding the sales in ah... Hell, these days a company could even start a D3G ETF... Wouldn't actually even be surprised considering how funny funds there are these days...

The volumes are way too low in AH, but In theory, a person could analyze the diablo 3 markets, make predictions about where the price is going and actually profit from it. In that sense it is just like every other market.

Heya Kylezo, get a shield.

I was clearing a3 with my monk that cost around 2-3m. Stats were about 800all res, 18k dps, 800loh and 35k hp 30% crit.

I don't know why everyone hates shields these days.... They are cheap and give you great amount of survivability. You can easily find a sacred/dread shield with 15% + block, 1200+ armor, 150+ dex, 50+ your resistances and 8%+ crit for less than 300k. Finding an offhand that would benefit you as much as that would cost probably 5m+++.

Thank you, I've been eyeing shields and thinking about getting one, might as well.

TD Ameritrade for their Think or Swim trading platform (best analysis tool in the business) and Options Express for the low commissions on bulk option trades. Of course there is a point trading them together. I have 3 active trade systems going at the same time. Half the trades are Vix index and Vix futures, and the other half are a combination of long and short positions in XIV, VXX, VXZ, and TVIX, depending on a combination of Contango, EMA / SMA, SPX HV / IV, and VIX Standard deviation signals. Nobody on a gaming forum gives a fuck what people do for a living, so none of this matters to anybody. I'm not trying to sound cool or prove anything to anybody. I simply found it funny that somebody actually tried to compare the Diablo AH with real world markets.

As was said before. This is not high end monk discussion, so we should stop now :)

Wrong. You can make 100m very quickly from 8, and you can make more if you need to. Gearing is trivial.

You said it has nothing to do with you being brain dead.

Making gold in this game requires nothing but common sense and a very small amount of time. I know you have a very small amount of time, so there's only one variable left.

Wow, you're an asshole.

I enjoy playing the game, not moving money pixels around until my head hurts. It has nothing to do with being brain dead. I'm not concerned with "making gold in this game," I'm concerned with playing it. I think you missed a few variables.
