How many log on daily, worldwide, in comparison to anything else? WoW continues to endure, Mobas have their niche players (myself among em), and then there's the console multiplayers. If you side-to-side comparison any of em, D3 is up there.
As for the expansion being canceled, well, that's news to me. I did read they might be working on Diablo 4 in lieu of that, but all of that is hearsay with nothing factually evident.
I do appreciate the fact you're allowing the opinion train to roam and run it's course though.
But I'd disagree that Blizzard thinks their game isn't great.
If anything, I'd *assume* they just can't find old-school RPGers lile they used to. For anyone who got to play Diablo when it was newer, we've probably played every RPG out there. They don't differ much in terms of getting maxed out gear and stonewalling at whatever that society deems to be endgame. In that regard, they're all the same. I can't play Arcanum, Nox, Kingdoms of Amalur, Elder Scrolls, Dark Souls, XXX, XXX, XXX <insert other RPGs, platform RPGs, console RPGs> any harder or with the same love that I had for the Diablos. And in lieu of that, people dwell on that, reflect on the past, then just throw their hands up wondering where the magic is.

No it is not. Doesn't matter because you only have 3 others in a game, no trading, etc, No they are not all the same either. Some are more PVP based and some are obviously PVM garbage only like D3. One of the things that makes d2 great is it had both and then some.
Blizzard knows D3 is not great...when you have as much hate circling around the net as D3 does, while they may like it....they know its not great. It's beyond unfinished. They took the direction of the game in a direction that they didn't even intend. That's pretty obvious. I didn't expect D3 to be a copy of D2, but I did expect it to be a sequel. They hated on things people liked in D2 and they caved in to the, selfish, jealous, self-imposed restricted gamers with the loudest voice. Once they made it clear with no PVP, BOA, no trading,etc(could go on) ...I have never seen so many people quit a game around the same time.
They even removed the ability to see how many people were playing online because the numbers went so low they removed it(not sure if they brought it back, but why would they). We watched the numbers drop in chunks each day. It would go up during patches then drop even lower than previously had.
It did get all those prestigious awards though........seriously what a joke. I don't care if you like it or the next guy does. That's fine. I'm just expressing my opinion much as you are. I feel like Blizzard screwed us and laughed all the way to the bank. Pretty shitty that Blizzard basically told the Diablo series fans to f off while they insulted us. IE. Pony level. The played us.
As far as D4, I don't think they are making it. I think they are going to make a new Diablo game though. Pretty sure it's going to be more like the original Blizz north, kinda like WOW and such. We shall see. Let's say that they do make D4, there is no way in hell they would sell as many D4 copies as they did 3 and they would be dumb to think so.
