Just realized the implications of this, and why when buying 1h weapons, higher attack speed weapons of same DPS will always give more OVERALL DPS (because of the offhand)

Weapon #1: 500-1000 damage, 1.3 attack speed--975 DPS.
Weapon #2: 400-900 damage, 1.5 attack speed--975 DPS.

You'll have higher total weapon+offhand DPS with weapon #2 though.
There's a thread in the trophy forum with a wizard that has 3.25 attacks per second. Might be enough for an additional cast before kiting. If you can hit that next "breakpoint" then the IAS can be justified
TO EXPAND ON THIS WITH MATHS
Let's say you got an orb with 100-300 damage. That's an additional 200 base damage added to your weapons.
Weapon #1 total DPS with offhand included will actually be:
975 + (200*1.3) = 975 + 260 = 1235
Weapon #2 total DPS with offhand included will actually be:
975 + (200*1.5) = 975 + 300 = 1275
So the faster weapon actually does more damage. Albeit the damage range may be different, hydras specifically will do more damage.
To balance this out, weapon #1 actually needs a weapon DPS value of 1015 to match the faster Weapon #2, therefore more costly.
Not to dig up an old...hatchet, but just putting emphasis on how the faster your weapon is, the more you'll benefit from your offhand weapon.
[edit]minor error
[edit2]
This raises my question of whether or not IAS might actually be better, since it is applied to the weapon DPS and therefore offers a stronger boost to Orb DPS...
