Well I would use the second one but socket it with an emerald. But it depends on your build and what you already have/need (ame vs eme).

Well, with second shield I will get more resistance, since I only got 215 all resist.

Maybe I chose that one then!

Yeah well my thoughts are that despite the loss of armor, you have a higher block and better resists. The Vitality bonus isn't very different. The socket gives you more customizability to adapt to your build. I personally would use an emerald to make up for that loss in dexterity. The chill can't hurt either :P

Yeah, true that!

Well, since I got about 17k dps unbuffed and very low life - I will use amethsyt at first I think.

Well I've been farming act 1 inferno for a while now. I haven't moved on because almost all of the good items I've found have gone straight to my clan mates, so my budget is low. The upgrades I've found are minor but ATM effective.

I'd love some opinions about how my current build will work in act two and what kind of direction I visualize my build taking. I haven't looked at any guides since I've been enjoying discovering things on my own, but I feel its time for some outside opinions!

My current build: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#WVYgTQ!aXV!ZcYYbc
My current stats (without any buffs): http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/9633/screenshot20120527at308.png

My general strategy at the moment relies on spirit regeneration. I personally think the monk's biggest weakness is lack of natural spirit regeneration. With amazing gear it doesn't matter but that takes a lot of luck or a lot of money to get your hands on :-P I use blind, serenity, and SSS pandemonium (which is incredibly effective!) to delay damage, and use CW concussion, and seize the initiative to reduce it. Exploding palm provides for amazing crowd control with that rune and is a nice hit and run move since it does a good amount of weapon damage over time. I usually play with a team since I enjoy that more, in which case this build proves VERY effective, since I can tank the toughest elites fore 10-15 seconds in a four person team before NEEDING to retreat and reduce cooldowns, allowing my team to do a ton of damage in the mean time. When I solo, I find it very easy, as when my defensive skills are on cooldown my defensive ability proves enough to resist most damage. I don't have to use my pots very much when I solo.

I see my build changing once I can improve my gear. When I can afford it, I would like to replace beacon or ytar with one with everything (with the proper gear of course) and I would like to swap out the shield for dual wielding. In turn I would use the guardians path and mantra of evasion (hard target) to utilize evasion instead of fleet footed and mantra of healing (time of need). I am torn between sweeping wind (master of the wind) and exploding palm, since SW requires be being in there. Ideally the 10 seconds would allow for some time out of the action, but I'm not sure how it will work in later acts.

I NEED some life leech and life per hit as well, and a higher DPS set of weapons. Opinions as to my current situation and plans for improvement?

OK been away from this thread for 4 days and there are 10 pages to read. I wanted to post my updates before going back and reading everything:

32k HP
540 all resists
4.8k armor
66% dodge
25k dps

currently progressing through act 4 inferno. it doesn't seem much harder than act 3.

@ all you monks still using a shield... LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

just did the maths: i've spent 7.5mil on gear in the past 3 days.

What's your DPS, Life on Hit?

What weapons are you using?

25k dps, low life on hit atm, like 100 or something crap. i would like to get over 1k, but then i would be invincible.

life on hit > life steal btw. not like 3% steal vs 100 on hit. but the amount of on hit you can get on one item is like 900 max, and that would equate to like 10% life steal on a weap when it's capped at 3%.
just imagine two weaps with 800 life on hit each with a 2.4 attack/second. .. . . ... unkillable

using some magic claws 850dps each.

String of Ears belt is omg awesome. I think that is going to be my next piece I invest in.

+11-20 Resistance to All Elements
Each Hit Adds +55-94 Life
+85-145 Armor
Reduces damage from melee attacks by 10-20%.
+3 Random Magic Properties

if that were to spawn with vit/dex, + the resist you have chosen to stack, it would easily be the best in slot item for your monk.

Dual-wield w/ 500+ res getting thru inferno act 3/4?? That's awesome. Can we see your gear?

What mantra & other skills/runes are you using?

What have you sacrificed for Res gear?
