They only reflect the quality of the item, and the stats shown in the tooltip, for the item. Nothing more. After ID'ing, you get the info for the other stats on the item.

Like I said, it's still a gamble either way.

Not entirely, but pretty close. I think I said it about 5 times, but some affixes have multiple stats associated with them, it's not a guaruntee but this is a good guideline in seeing how potentially good an item will be. Obviously a 6 affix item can be much better than a 4 affix one, but as for what the stats actually are, that's up in the air

I can alomost guarantee Blizz will not be quick to fix this, it will just force people to use the ah/rmah even more because youll have to assume people selling unids are doing this
