I recently started up again. Put about 130h in when the game launched, then another 10 or so when the expansion came out although I never beat act 5.
Here's what I can say about getting back into it:
- Seems like you need to finish the campaign and get to lvl 70 solo, which is a pain if you haven't done that yet
- They fixed drops so you don't really need to trade (unless you were going for a specific gear build I guess), although your old gear will get outdated fast
- You won't find any other players until you make it to Adventure mode, even then you'll have to click through to Torments to hopefully find one with players in it. The most players I've ever seen online is 12.
- My friend keeps trying to get me to switch to PS4 version because it's the "definitive" version. I find that hard to believe, but less so after seeing how quiet it's been. Doesn't seem worth it to start over unless you can get a rush
- I'm not sure build really matters all that much once you get to 70 cuz all you have to do is find a game with someone way above you and leech xp. Since I hit 70 I've gained about 60 paragon levels and didn't really have to do anything.
- Not sure paragon levels do anything other than give you measly stat upgrades
- Haven't done any grifts yet, but bounties are fun, mainly the opening of caches. Regular rifts have pretty good drops, so you could grind those.
- Haven't played any 'seasons' yet, so many that's where the players are?
- Almost nobody plays nonseason, and the people who do tend not to be very active.
- An average player would get 400Bill xp/hour doing greater rifts, and you've only gotten 2 billion total so far. You have about 20 seconds worth of XP, so you really haven't played yet.
- Paragon does a lot. Ideally you want to reach at least 800 so that you get all the categorys maxed out.
