Games like Diablo 2 have no wow factor in boss killing. The only reason you would kill a boss is to magic find. Sure games like fable focus around killing the boss but that's a different game.
Diablo 3 was meant to be repeated like Diablo 2. Problem is its so terrible most people didn't even make it to the boss and if they did they killed it once and quit.
Yeah, I did the same when it was first launched.
However, it got a lot more entertaining after RoS, and honestly I like farming rifts a lot more in D3 than farming baal/dia in D2

They kinda removed that repetitiveness with the rifts, so you dont have to farm the same boss/map a thousand times, and thats a big plus imo.
and yeah, D2 was all about farming, trading and PvP
and so was D3 in the start(not so much PvP).
But I was bored of D3 in the start, after a couple of days but RoS kept me playing for weeks.
So, they did something right with RoS and my bet would be that they removed the boring boss / same map grinding
but tbh. pretty much all rpg games is about completing the objective, grind out the best gear or/and try to be the best at PvP/PvM
