crafting in d3 is wow over again ..

Except not. When did items in WoW have random properties on everything?

Does WoW even have any items with random properties?

Why would d3 have crafting? Crafting adds depth to gameplay and character builds. That's not in the spirit of D3.

Then again, crafting is the type of thing that should be judged within the context of the game, and we don't know enough about d3 items at this point in time.

They aren't removing crafting.. infact they are increasing it heavily. They are just changing how it works, and IMO, for the better.

I've noticed the bulk of crafted items (mostly webs) are quite obviously going to be good, but not as good as the best dropped rares, I do hope they add slots like gloves and belts where crafted items have the potential to roll the best stats.

I think this will be the case as they stated they want an uber good char to be a mix of crafted rares, dropped rares and uniques (perhaps some set peices for a good 2 peice bonus) and I think this is a good approach.

It's just a matter of how well it is excecuted, well have to wait till release to find that out.

I'm glad that the crafted weps are not the best... weps feel like something that should be really hard to get awesome ones. Spam crafting to get the VERY best just doesn't feel right for that particular slot... don't know why, might just be me.

Crafting in WoW was a joke. The items were bad and it cost a lot. The ONLY reason people leveled them was for the rare proffs that made money and to get the passive bonuses you got from high level proffs.

D3's crafting system crafts completely random items (WoW you know EXACTLY what you are getting, all the time). The D3 system will be much like the D2 system when you craft bulk amounts of items then pick the goodies to sell or use and vendor or salvage the rest and craft some more. This method has a really Diablo feel of never knowing what you might get... always chasing that ever eluisive eth fools with high ED and IAS (to give a D2 example... obv D3 will be after different mods).

And with the better crafted items having 6 mods, and we haven't seen all the mod possibilities yet... going to be able to make some fantastic gear.

Really other than the UI of the crafting which looks somewhat similar to WoW's (it was a good UI... can't blame them for just altering it for D3), I see very few similarities to WoW's bad crafting system.

The only things they used form WoW are the ones that worked well... so sue them?

crafting is way closer to gambling, except you're guaranteed the item quality (war axe / naga / berserker axe) and the number of affixes

You're right, it's a cross between D2 gambling and crafting... I think that's a good thing as they were both good aspects of the game but both were poorly done. Looks like the system will be better in D3. No way to tell untill game releases though

you can craft a rare item with set stats and random stats. that is crafting...

the only difference between diablo II and diablo III crafting is that you can craft magic and rare items, and the mechanism to craft.

idk if this guy is trolling or stupid...

This is a good discussion. Yeah, I like what I've read about the artisans. Also cool to know that you don't have to level them on each toon. Speaking from experience with WoW, the crafting professions tended to be rather weak.
