Personally for me what made Diablo 2 so incredibly fun back in the day was how edgy it was. Bugs, imbalances, Scammers, hacked items & people botting gave the economy a life of its own. I personally never engaged in any of these things, infact during 1.09 I refused to use any bugged items and I believe I may have had one of the best geared 100% legit level 99 characters at the time. The fact that so many people were cheating made my personal choice not to added extra value to my playtime and made me proud and satisfied in the same way that this new obsession with achievements is trying to.
The reason I stopped playing Wow (twice) was because the game became way to restrictive. Anytime some cool bug or imbalance started to get taken advantage of it quickly got nerfed. This personally drove me nuts, I mean... some balance in the game is good but when they are constantly changing it trying to balance new content I find more than anything it gets frustrating.
I personally would like to see additions, rebalances and improvements to the game being made far more rarely (like in diablo 2) with a major expansion every couple years and other than that only small bug fixing patches every few months.
I dont mind paying monthly, I just want to see Diablo 3 as more of a sandbox type game and am afraid that monthly subscriptions would lead to way too much "customer service" resulting in a more restricted multi-player experience.

though botting and spammers are out of hand atm,
i also do not like mods in pvp .. keep that legit plz, leave the mods for open bnet
another thing i liked personally was that d2 felt like there were no rules, anything goes, i remember back in the day people would claim to report someone and nothing ever happened, it was like blizzard gave the economy to the players and let it shape itself, very fun
