They haven't released any official information on that, as far as I've heard (that's not to say that I'm necessarily up-to-date on it). In the last interview I listened to, they were discussing the possibility of Diablo being put onto consoles, and in that same interview they wouldn't confirm what their finalized plans will be in terms of Diablo 3 and the payment schemes (the only solid information was that they may vary the payment schemes based on the region they are selling the game to). Could you please site your source if they have given confirmation on what you're saying.

While the words may be the words of an official Blizzard spokesperson, there is nothing there which states whether Diablo will for certain be pay-to-play or not.

That's weird, because that's exactly what I got out of it.

Quote for me where they said the game will not be pay to play. No where do they make that statement.

"We're definitely not looking at turning Diablo into a subscription based game."

"The good news is, they're not going to make Diablo III subscription based."

Turn to 1:28 and listen for 10 seconds. Ideally listen from 1:28 to 2:20. Nearing 2:20 he says "it [games] has typically been [sold in North America as just a box], but we don't know yet whether that's going to be the case here..."

That quote is not a statement which dictates any decision.

[edit]: The second quote is not from a Blizzard spokesperson. Those are the words of the person who wrote the article, which can only amount to being opinion.

We would never do something like say to get the full game experience, you'll have to pay extra.

Not sure what else he would mean.

Question: Here at North America, games have typically been sold as a box. [Will Diablo 3 reflect these same business practices?]

Answer: Yes, it has typically been that; but we don't know yet whether that's going to be the case here with Diablo 3.

Taken directly from the video. I hope you actually listened.

That quote, again, is from something from 2008, is it not? And it simply expresses some views on business practices in general, rather than giving anything close to some sort of finalizing answer.

That second quote is taken from the creator of the article, who has no affiliation with Blizzard other than being someone who interviewed someone from Blizzard. The first quote sounds promising, however it's not a statement about the final product.

So I guess the word "never" is a temporary consideration, if that makes sense.

I'm sorry but I'm not arguing about this anymore.
If what I'm getting from your statements is true, you aren't reading what he said.

You're reading everything out of context. If you want me to explain the line in which he used the word "never", I will:

Quote ((Blizzard Person))
We would never do something like say to get the full game experience, you'll have to pay extra.

In this context, this is not talking about pay-to-play. This is talking about Blizzard's business practices. He is simply saying what the guy said in the video: They give you what you pay for. So, if they charge pay-to-play, they believe they aren't making you pay extra for the full gaming experience; they believe they are making you pay exactly your fair share for the gaming experience. The term "extra", in this context, is synonymous for "excess".

The video which I posted is VERY clear: They asked one of the head directors of the game whether the game will be pay-to-play for North America. The answer is that they, at this time, cannot give an answer.
