I finished studying programming several years ago, so I guess I have some knowledge about this too.
But since you're most likely going into the business, let me explain you a few tricks. The goal that we programmers seek towards, is making an effective program that every computeruser in the world can use with maximum functionality.
If you make the errors display as hex codes, only those equipped with the knowledge of hex, or those who goes to research it, would be able to understand what the error was, which is why smart Blizzard never would let any error be displayed as a hex-code.
But of course you "can" do it, but a company like Blizzard wouldn't do something like that
