This thread makes me rage every fucking time I see it GOD DAMN WOW SPAWNS DIABLO IS FREE TO PLAY IT WAS THE FIRST FREE TO PLAY SEMI-MMO THATS WHAT MADE IT FAMOUS THERE FOR WILL NEVER BE PAY 2 FUCKING PLAY.

Blizzard already makes billions off of wow being pay to play, they don't need to make diablo pay to play and it would actually alienate people away from Diablo (since it's always been free to play online).

Also, the servers are done in small instances of players instead of one large server for all players. The actual overhead of cpu usage and bandwidth is pretty minimal from a server side standpoint compared to an MMORPG. That's why you don't really need the pay option to help maintain servers.

The Guild Wars approach isn't terrible as it does add a full game worth of content for the price. Diablo 2 did it with the LOD expansion and only added some items and a new act.

If you're looking for a reason to hate Diablo 2 because of hacks cheats and bots, look somewhere else. The Warden actually does a decent job of stopping a large majority of public hacks. You have to especially consider that this game is 11+ years old at this point, so further support of banning hacks and cheats is pretty much a wate of resources when their manpower is set on Diablo 3.

It doesn't need to be a lot, but I highly, HIGHLY agree that d3 should be pay to play.
Even a few bucks a month will allow blizzard to fight bots a lot more effectively.

Just look at what Diablo 2 has become. bots plainly rule the whole of battle.net
Chat spam bots, game spam bots, farm bots, baalrun/diablo run bots.. the list goes on.


Looking at WoW, there are still spambots there. But compared to Diablo 2,, oh man... there's a HUGE difference.

well obviously bbr, but then again, wow doesnt have 10 years under its belt yet, we will see then
