A monthly fee will not reduce the number of bots that spam in your game. I've seen far less spamming bots in Guild Wars in the main and beginner cities than I have in WoW and FFXI. I think it has to do with the developers caring more about their players and wanting to keep the environment free of spammers and botters more than anything. Guild Wars is free to play, and they have managed it just fine for the past almost 6 years and they host more events than WoW does. Every single weekend something new. On top of that when I played WoW I've noticed that the events give you such little to do, and such little for your reward as apposed to GW. So I highly doubt a monthly fee will effect much other than the income of the people who work on the game. You can counter the argument by telling me that it encourages better game management but you are factually incorrect. WoW has been the same shit for the last 6 - 7 years. Just like Guild Wars. WoW has bad events and not enough of them that do not give very much in return. Guild Wars does. WoW has a shit ton of spammers even to this date. I go for months at a time on Guild Wars with out seeing any spammers. -shrug-
Believe what you want I guess. I think I've said enough.
Believe what you want. That same statement works for you

Believe it or not, monthly fees DO help. I want you to count every spam bot and botter in general while sitting in a city all day when playing WoW. Keep that number in your head.
Now, multiply that number by 100. That is how many bots would likely exist; maybe even more.
And, not to mention, the game would have ended...2 expansion packs ago without P2P.
And GW isn't an argument. That game has a miniscule player base compared to WoW, as do any and all other MMOs you compare WoW to. If you put the player-to-bot ratio the same for any of these games, you will notice a similar number of bots, but still likely less. Why? Read below.
Botters go where the money is (I'm speaking of spam bots). There is little profit to be made in GWs for botters; there is a lot of profit in WoW, on the other hand.
Blizzard is a "pedigree" developer. No matter what game they develop, botters and sellers will target the game.
