It depends on which build you run. If you didn't know that, too bad. I never theory craft.

You sound like you know everything. Why did you even ask which one of those 2 weapons is better?

And when did I say those are "bad", I thought you were picking one of them to use on your monk. Obviously, I would tell you to sell both and get one good weapon to make it better.

I run this build http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#UdYeXk!XVb!bbcaYa

and asking about the weapons is a simple as you telling me that they are bad. I dont know why you patronize me and also laught about my independence. I know you run monks all over the d2jsp site, probably other communities too, but I really dont understand why a simple question pushes you to make me your padawan. if I could get 2weapons with 1300dps /1.4 /3ls /90crit /sox, I wouldn't be asking if they are good. this question of mine is a request for comparsion of what I own and which of these weapons is better. thanks

Why do you always be like this in every topic you post? Seriously.

This is very simple. The weapon choices will vary by the build that you like to run.

See? That's a nirvana bell build. The mechanic is completely different from the cookie variant builds.

For nirvana bell build:

MH: Get a high dps/aps weapon with Ruby
OH: Get a stat stick (dex/cd/ls) with Emerald. The DPS on the offhand doesn't matter at all.

so i guess the spear can stay if ruby is preferable for bells. thx for the response. I have a 300dex 92%cd 2,8ls sox weapon with 1.4aps but really dont know if I can rely on that info about the dps that doesn't matter. as far as I can remember there was a percentage of dps that mattered with mh/oh combination and players could to have maximum up to 25% lower dps on the offhand than on the mainhand to not affect their overall dps. does that apply to bellbuilds?

The bell takes the weapon damage of Mainhand weapon for its skill damage. The Offhand is just "offhand" for the bell builds.

Other conventional Tclap/SW Cyclone cookie builds do not have so called mainhand/offhand since both swing matters.

You can check the skill damage on d3rawr.com. If you load up your monk there and check the skill dmg tab, you can clearly see that there's mainhand dmg and offhand dmg for FoT/Tclap and SW/Cyclone skills. But the bell dmg on the bottom just lists one number which is based off of mainhand weapon dmg only.

So, the bottom line is that your paper dps on the inventory will show quite poor number with low dps weapon on the offhand, but the actual effective dps is very high.

-----

One more thing about the weapon.

I think you can just use your spear on MH and that 300 dex stat stick that you have on OH.

BUT here's the tricky issue.

The bell drops at the rate of your Mainhand aps. If your aps for mainhand is something like 1.9 and 2.1 for offhand weapon. Your bell drops will be obviously pretty slow.

This is not that big of a deal for quickening bell builds, BUT for nirvana builds, you do get 5 seconds of infinite spirit regen. You want to throw down as many bells as possible within that window.

So there's some pros/cons for different weapon set up for this. :)

My typical set up for nirvana bell is this: http://www.d3rawr.com/d-As1rH
But I do change out the gem on Mainhand with Marquise Ruby.
And I sometimes use 800dps/99%cd/2.4aps/11% fear/socket instead of that rare fist on offhand.

Here's a sample video of me using Nirvana bell build
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6rUpAwUwk

My paper dps is only around 220k on this set up with soj, but as you can see, I killed the MP10 yellow pack in 1 nirvana cycle (5secs)

So yeah, the pdps doesn't matter at all for bell builds.

This another video sample of me killing the pack within 5 seconds. Same gear set up for this video.

Have fun dude.

If you are using the bell as the main dmg dealer, yes Ruby is better since it puts out higher bell dmg.

Specs like these:

But if you are using Thunderclap and Cyclone as the main dmg, stick with Emerald.

Try this for your monk CallMeMatt.

I changed out couple skills and skill runes.

You will do much higher dmg with this spec.

for this particular build you use, ruby. if you would follow the discussion above you, you would know.

jin I have a question if you are still here. tal rasha + innas belt or wh with regular innas? which is better for the bell? does that 8% applies better than 50% crit?

It depends on your other gear set up, but Tal chest + Inna's Favor (double dex) yield you higher bell dmg, yeah.

Sorry for the noob question, but I am in love with my monk and I want to gear him a bit better. I am using Thunderclap/ Cyclone atm, and am wanting to switch to a Won Khim Lau.

My questions are:
Can you dual wield Won Khim Lau?
If not, can I use Won Khim Lau and Echoing Fury? Or the other legendary Fist?
If not, what secondary do I need to use? Rare LL / Dex / Vit / Emerald?
Does it matter what secondary weapon type I use with Won Khim Lau? I don't have to use 2 fists do I? >_>

This is what I have at the moment:

I am on ~500m budget
