I'm looking to improve this budget monk. Just got back into D3 recently, so any suggestions in the way of skills, items and farming routes would be good.

Are you against the idea of purchasing a small amount of gold to start you off? Even 20 million gold would get you a pretty decent monk to play the game much more efficient.

Not at all. I would get 20m (or a bit more) if it made things a lot smoother. If it can do smooth runs in the higher mps without too much difficulty and I don't spend too much, that's fine.

You will be able to paragon lvl and farm some stuff pretty easily in mp3-4 with the gears.
