I have d3 on both console and PC
Console non-season is unplayable. maybe 5% of players are legit, rest all use hacked gear. That's why they can breeze through GR150
Console season has no hacked gear, because I believe the leaderboards are link to Blizzard whereas non-season isn't (aka Blizz doesnt care about non-season)
PC has no hacked gear period on both season and non season
I only play console for the season (right joystick roll/dodge is a nice touch that PC players don't have)
So about reaching higher GR's:
You can play for fun with your own specific build and will eventually only get so high because what you're doing/wearing probably isn't "optimal"
Following builds online will teach you how to use your character and set items to it's full optimal potential. They wont be the most fun builds or even enjoyable to play to you, but they're the highest dmg output windows with the best survival possibilities.
High GRs are just cookie cutter "meta" builds that everyone runs.
The good news is that this season a lot of the "not so good" sets have been buffed so there should be a little more variety at the top.
Ahh cool man that's interesting to know! I quite like the right stick roll too. It's just not quite as easy to target particular monsters.
Cheers for the info, probably gunna start this season since it's only a few days old!
