I disagree with that. Check out the first gameplay trailer narrated by Jay Wilson. Had runes, gritty feel, etc. Felt just like a true Diablo 3 (that looked clearly transpired from D2).

That played a huge role in hyping everyone as well

Might of been a video I didn't see, the video I watched hyped and called for a new experience apart from D2.
