I can verify it is still the fastest way to get EXP in the PC version as well.
This is the optimal route:
Level 1) Kill Enemies
Level 2) Kill Enemies | Skip Butcher | Ignore Dark Passage
Level 3) Find Leoric's Tomb - Always on left side
Leoric) Kill Enemies inside and Leoric as well (optional). If Leoric is tough to kill you can skip killing him but do kill as many skeletons as possible (not the ones he spawn because they don't give EXP).
I powerleveled people this way on TORMENT 6. So comparing TORMENT 6 RIFT vs TORMENT 6 Dark Tristram (1-3) it was a CLEAR winner of Dark Tristram.
Reason: Easier enemies to kill. Always a guaranteed amount of enemies in level 1-3. No bosses except a few purple HP low lifers. Gives MORE exp than the rift enemies. You have less risk of dying because mobs are too easy to dodge and are slow.
So the conclusion is simple. Power level a friend for 10 minutes in Dark Tristram (level 1-3 Leoric) vs Rift to see the clear difference. The higher Torment, the easier the advantage is to spot.
The only thing beating the EXP gained in Dark Tristram (Level 1-3) is Greater Rifts. But it is true you barely get any drops from this. It's plainly for farming EXP.
PS. continuing in Dark Tristram beyond level 3 is going to be less EXP efficient because enemies get tougher and spawn is lesser amounts! So no, don't compare full tristram to my efficient level strategy please. Thank you.
